Dottie kissed her husband goodbye as he headed out the door for a game of Saturday golf. The sun was shining brightly; not a cloud dotted the blue sky, and the smell of honeysuckle filled the air. It was one of those mornings when all just seemed right with the world. Gently closing the door, Dottie smiled to herself as she turned and headed back into the kitchen to finish making breakfast for her two young children. Passing the hallway mirror, she caught a glimpse of her reflection and let out a sigh. Not bad, she thought. But if only I could remove those dark circles under my eyes! She stopped and turned to face herself fully in the mirror. So much had happened in the past three weeks that Dottie hardly recognized the face gazing back at her. I should be happy with this instead of being so self-critical, she chastised. She could hear five-year-old son, Darren, pouring his favorite cereal in the kitchen – or rather “onto” the kitchen as she was sure most of the crunchy meal was ending up on the floor. Still, Dottie remained in front of the mirror, evaluating her new appearance. Three weeks ago, she had looked all of her 37 years and then some. Fatigue, stress, and overall self-neglect had left her facial skin dry, splotchy, and simply old-looking. Then came that pivotal Saturday when she had received the invitation to her twentieth high school reunion. It was a moment of decision for Dottie as she struggled between wanting more than anything to reconnect with old friends and dreading having these same friends see how tired and frazzled her appearance had become. Instead of missing out on the reunion, she had decided that day to do something about her skin, and she had began a daily routine of all-natural cleansing, moisturizing, and toning. The results were amazing. In just a few short weeks her skin already looked younger, more alive, and healthier than it had in years. And with three weeks still remaining before the big event, Dottie was sure that she would be fully-prepared to show her face to the old high-school crowd.
But there were still these stubborn dark circles. At least they’re clean circles!Dottie thought jokingly to herself, trying to rationalize their presence as par for the course when you have young children, a job, a husband, and a household to run. Deep down, though, Dottie wished that there were something she could do to remove these dark circlesfrom under her eyes. She heard a small crash in the kitchen and knew that the entire box of cereal had ended up on the floor. Tearing herself away from the mirror, she walked into the kitchen and held back a smile as Darren proudly announced that he had “made breakfast.” Taking a seat at the kitchen table, Dottie pulled him onto her lap. “Honey, do you think mommy has dark circles under her eyes?” As soon as she asked the question, she realized how ridiculous she must sound. I’m asking a five-year-old for his opinion of my complexion! The very idea made her burst out in laughter. Laughing along with her, Darren suddenly became quite still. Looking intently at her eyes, he shook his head and proudly declared, “No, that’s your eye shadow!” Oh dear! Out of the mouths of babes! If her five-year-old thought she had eye shadow on under her eye, then Dottie knew there must be a problem. After giving Darren and his eight-year-old sister, Julia, what was left of the cereal, Dottie watched them eagerly skip out the back door to play in the backyard sunshine. Well, she thought, the Internet helped me solve my skin care problems. Maybe I can find some help for these dark circles too. Determining that the mess in the kitchen could wait until later, Dottie went to her desk and flipped open her laptop. She did a quick search for eliminating dark circles under eyes and with a strike of the “Enter” key, her efforts were immediately rewarded. Not only were there products to remove dark circles under the eyes, but the products, such as a specially formulated mineral eye gel, were made by the same company that manufactured several of the facial cleansers she had already fallen in love with! Dottie also found that eye skin care is not a “one-size fits all” scenario, and while gels are fantastic for some people, others benefit from dark circle creams. Excited about her new finds, Dottie filled her online shopping cart with the dark-circle-removing products she had selected and quickly completed the secure checkout process. Just as she clicked “send” on her order, she heard the back door open as Julia ran in yelling that Darren had tripped her. Dottie smiled to herself again. Sure, parenting might result in a few dark circles under the eyes, but now she had a product on the way to fix that. And even with the circles, she loved being a mom.
